“Little by little, one travels far.”-J.R.R Tolkein

After living in the United States for the last fifteen months, and with only six months left, I thought it would be a good idea to blog about my experiences. I’ve tried journals and diaries before and never stuck to them so fingers crossed this one works out.

When I think back to 2007-the last time I was here, I’m frustrated because not only did I lose most of my pictures, but I never wrote a single word down about my experiences. I wrote a few novel-sized emails home, but I wish I had at least written a little for myself. My memory isn’t the greatest, and theres nothing like reading an old journal entry and being taken back to how I felt at the time.

I also want to give advice to people who are considering traveling, or working as an Au Pair in America. If one of my posts helps someone to make an informed decision, then it’s worth it.

I want to remember these experiences forever, as well as sharing what I’ve learned- my mistakes, triumphs and everyday thoughts.

So here goes…wish me luck!

Hey! I just wanted to say thanks for your posts on the USA :) I’m heading off in a few weeks to work there, and while I won’t be an au pair, I’m also coming from New Zealand, so it’s been nice to read up on those simple things that you don’t realise before you go, so I just wanted to say thanks for the posts :)

      Hi Janelle

Thanks so much for the lovely comment. What will you be doing in the USA? Where will you be living? I hope you have an awesome time and I’d love to hear all about it :)

I’m currently trying to make my mind up about becoming an Au Pair In America (I’m from New Zealand also)
I feel it’s the only way I can legally go and work in America, plus I’m a qualified nanny so it seems like the best idea.
I look forward to reading all the blogs you’ve written about your experience!

Wow if you’re a qualified nanny you’ll definitely be able to find a great family. Even if you just do it for a year it’s a great experience!
