Are Kangaroo’s and Koala’s in my future?

I’m thinking about moving to Sydney, Australia for a few months when I’m done with this Au Pair thing. The original plan was to go straight to London, but since it’s looking more and more like I’ll have to head back over that side of the world to get my Youth Mobility Visa, I figure I may as well make some money and do some backpacking in Australia while I’m there.

Are Kangaroo's and Koala's in my future

One of my German friends has said she’d like to move to Aussie for a while too, which would make the whole process way more fun.  I’m just kind of worried about trying to find somewhere to live, a job etc. I feel like I’m unprepared for living like an adult at the moment. Not only do I not pay any bills, but since my host family has gardeners, a pool boy and a cleaning company, I haven’t had to pick up a vacuum cleaner, or clean a bathroom in almost a year and a half.

I’m not an organized person. And I don’t want to have to deal with working in an office somewhere, paying bills, and pretending to be an adult. The thing I love most about traveling is being able to escape the 9-5 grind that I used to live everyday.

But if it’s in a new country- where I haven’t lived and worked before, maybe it won’t be so bad. I can explore Sydney in the weekends, take vacations in Melbourne and Perth, and spend a month backpacking before I head to London. I need to weigh the short term boredom with the long term result, which would mean more money and therefore more traveling. With the high Australian dollar at the moment, I’d be crazy not to take advantage of it. Right?

I wouldn’t even have to make this decision if the Americans would process my Youth Mobility Visa here. I’m going to keep trying different visa companies to see if it can somehow get processed here, but if it can’t, I guess I should look on the bright side. After all a summer in Australia is bound to be more fun than a winter in London!

Haha yeah I am starting to get excited now. It felt a bit like a step backwards since it's so close to NZ but it should be a good opportunity to see some of aussie. It's funny how things work out!
