While I love adventure travel, the older I get, the less I like “roughing it” in cheap hostels. These days I would rather at least stay in a guesthouse or mid-range hotel, and I have to admit that I occasionally have the odd fantasy of staying in style.
This badass infographic shows that living like a celebrity is way cheaper than I thought. A good example: Did you know you can stay in Elizabeth Taylor’s historic home, where you’ll see photos of the actress, oil paintings, and her possessions and spend hours lazing in the pool and spa and toasting marshmallows in front of the fireplace? And guess how much you’ll pay? Just £372 per person per week (the house sleeps up to eight people).
I like the sound of staying in Orson Wells’ digs, which are located in Sunset Boulevard and also has room for eight people. The house looks sunny and beautiful and features a Jacuzzi and lagoon pool as well as awesome views of Hollywood. This is the kind of place where you can truly feel like a celebrity since so many have stayed there- including David Bowie, Frank Sinatra, Rita Hayworth and Barbara Streisand.
For me, the most impressive is Necker Island- the private island of Richard Branson which is perfectly located in the Caribbean. This island is perfect if you have a huge event on, since it can sleep up to 30 people and has plenty of activities on offer so you won’t get bored. This one is a little more pricey at £9,928 per person per week, but this is probably similar to what you would spend in a 5-star hotel, and it really is a one-of-a-kind experience.
This blog post also looks at the different ways you can enjoy living like a celebrity, and I must admit I like the idea of pretending to be Christy Brinkley for a week or two. Her home is aptly named The Lucky House, and is located in Parrot Cay, Turks and Caicos. Featuring an infinity pool that’s 45-feet long, a sunbathing area and fire pit on beside the beach, I also like the sound of the on-site activities and guest services although I can imagine I would spend most of my time in the pool. This place would be perfect for a girls week, since it sleeps up to six people at £4,544 per week.
I’m planning to visit Italy later this year, and while I’m super excited to see the country, I just need 49 friends to stay in the 16th-century villa owned by Sting and Trudie Styler. Located in Florence Il Palagio, if I can get a huge group together for a week the total price works out to be just £183 for a week- I would pay that for a night in a hotel!
These celebrity homes have definitely made me rethink my travel plans, and I think I’ll definitely be more creative when I head to Europe later this year!
